Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist. He led the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968.
He was originally born Michael King Jr. He was born on January 15, 1929. He took over the small, struggling Ebenzer Baptist church with only 13 members and made it into a forceful congragation from his father. He later went on to marry Coretta Scott. They had four children. They were Yolanda, MLK III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice. In 1954, MLK Jr. became pastor of the Dexter Ave. Baptist Church of Montgomery, AL. He completed his PhD and his degree in 1955 at 25 years old.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a great motivator to more than just African Americans. He spoke up for black rights and led the Civil Rights Movement.
